BruinALERT

UCLA uses the BruinALERT emergency notification system to distribute emergency notifications and timely warnings to the campus community.

 

BruinALERT Emergency Notifications

The UCLA Office of Emergency Management and Police Department may issue an emergency notification to notify the UCLA campus community of a dangerous situation and/or immediate threat to their health or safety.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check, verify, and update their personal contact information regularly via their respective registration portals:

For Campus Students: Students with a valid UCLA email address and cell phone number in MyUCLA are automatically enrolled to receive emergency notifications via email and text. Additionally, students that have entered additional emergency notification contacts in MyUCLA will also receive email and/or text notifications to those additional contacts.

For Campus Faculty & Staff: Faculty and staff with valid UCLA email addresses, work phone number, and cell phone number in UCPath are automatically enrolled to receive emergency notifications via email, text or phone.

For UCLA Health Faculty & Staff: Faculty and staff with valid UCLA MedNet email addresses and a declared work location in the Westwood area are automatically enrolled to receive emergency notifications via email.

For Family, Friends, and Visitors: If you would like to receive BruinALERT text messages, you may sign up via Nixle by texting 'BRUINALERT' to 888-777. No charge but Message & Data rates may apply. To opt-out of Nixle, text ‘STOP’ to 888-777.

 

Bruins Safe Online Public Advisories

The UCLA Office of Emergency Management posts BruinALERT emergency notifications and public advisories to the Bruins Safe Online website.  The BSO homepage also hosts the campus operational status, current air quality, and campus safety resources.

Download the Bruins Safe App on your eligible mobile device for BruinALERT push notifications, offline emergency procedures, and online safety resources, including CSO Evening Escort and Friend Walk.

In the event of a major emergency, UCLA may activate the Bruins Safe Disaster Information Hotline at 1-800-900-UCLA or local 310-825-1234.
 

UCPD Clery Timely Warnings

The UCLA Police Department may issue a timely warning to all UCLA email addresses when a Clery Act crime occurs on UCLA’s Clery Act geography is reported to campus security authorities or local police agencies, and are considered by the institution to represent a serious or continuing threat to the campus community.  A timely warning is issued to aid in the prevention of similar occurrences, including Aggravated Assault, Arson, Burglary, Drug Facilitated Assault, Hate Crime, Hazing, Motor Vehicle Theft, Robbery, Sexual Assault, and Stalking.

To report suspicious activity, call UCPD at 310-825-1491, or in an emergency dial 9-1-1.

Updating Your Contact Information


Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to check, verify, and update their personal contact information regularly via their respective registration portals:

Frequently Asked Questions

-    Remain calm & listen/read the emergency notification carefully.
-    Follow the protective measures as directed, and assist those around you if safe to do so.
-    Follow the instructions of any follow-up notifications, or from uniformed public safety personnel in your area.
-    DO NOT call 9-1-1 unless you’re instructed to do so – this will only tie up emergency phone lines.

-    Follow-up messages with updated information, including an ‘all clear’ update, may be sent from BruinALERT when appropriate.
-    Updates will be shared as available on the Bruins Safe Online website: https://bso.ucla.edu/.
-    In the event of limited communications, the Bruins Safe Disaster Information Hotline may be activated: 1-800-900-UCLA (8252) or 310-825-1234

Depending on the type of emergency, BruinALERT uses pre-defined crisis communications levels to determine the type of notifications delivered. Notifications may be delivered via email, SMS text message, phone call, Bruins Safe Online, or Nixle.

-    UCLA affiliates and non-affiliates can also call 310-267-4357 (HELP) or email help@it.ucla.edu.
 

-    If your University-sponsored email address changes, the changes will be automatically updated in BruinALERT.
-    UCLA affiliates (UCLA faculty, staff & students) must make any changes to their personal contact information directly via their respective registration portal.
-    UCLA non-affiliates must re-register via Nixle with their updated personal contact information.
 

No, all information you provide will be kept strictly confidential.

All UCLA students, faculty and staff may elect to opt-out of BruinALERT text messages by texting ‘STOP’ to 888-777.  To remove your personal contact information from BruinALERT, affiliates can remove their personal contact information from the original data source.  Please note that a UCLA-sponsored email address may not be removed from BruinALERT.
